Rice Summer School for College Students
Rice students and visiting students can take advantage of the smaller classes held during the summer months (usually 6-20 people). Session options consist of a three-week Early Session in May and an eight-week General Session June through July. Students can take up to 12 credit hours during the summer sessions.

Alliances for Graduate Education and the Professoriate Summer Research Program
Rice, the University of Houston, Texas Southern University, Texas State University, San Jacinto Community College, and the Houston Community College System comprise the Rice-Houston Alliances for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (Rice-Houston AGEP) Program. Situated in one of the nation’s largest, most culturally diverse cities, the Rice-Houston AGEP unites many of the city’s research and teaching universities and community colleges in the common mission of significantly increasing the number of underrepresented minority students earning PhDs and positioning them to become leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. The program will cover students’ travels costs and provide them with a housing supplement and a $3,500 stipend.

Leadership Rice Summer Mentorship Experience
Students of all majors and years who are interested in developing their leadership capacities may sign up for the fall Leadership Rice course, LEAD 101. In LEAD 101, students explore and assess various leadership theories and approaches. Armed with a theoretical framework, students are given opportunities to address current ethical, democratic, and international challenges of leadership.
The Summer Mentorship Experience (SME), a competitive summer internship program for Rice undergraduates who aspire to high-level leadership, is open to freshmen, sophomores and juniors from all disciplines. For nine weeks over the course of the summer, students do substantive work with recognized leaders in public, private, or non-profit organizations. Each SME participant is paired with a mentor who oversees the student's learning and personal development, and we only partner with organizations at which the student will do substantive work and have some opportunity to observe and interact with recognized leaders. Placements include dynamic and demanding summer work experiences in a variety of industries, and are concentrated in Houston, New York City and Washington, D.C., and internationally in Paris, France and Pune, India.

The Janus Award
The Janus Award allows one Rice undergraduate each year to explore a complex environmental or scientific issue from multiple perspectives. Open to all Rice students through a competitive grant process, the Janus Award allots a stipend of $2,500 toward an independent summer research project. The award is administered by Leadership Rice.

Rice Quantum Institute Research Experience for Undergraduates
This National Science Foundation-sponsored program gives undergraduate students an opportunity to work in an intense, interdisciplinary, collaborative research environment. The work will show students both the relationships among atomic, molecular, optical, surface, and material sciences and the technological ramifications of fundamental research in these areas.
