Study AbroadIn the era of a global society, an international perspective and cross-cultural competence have become key elements to a well-rounded education. Immersion in a culture different from one's own is an extraordinary opportunity. Rice actively encourages its students to spend a summer, semester, or full year abroad, and nearly 40 percent of our undergraduates participate in a Rice-facilitated international experience. In the 2004-2005 school year, Rice undergraduates earned academic credit or work experience in 34 different countries.
Options are available for all fields of study: from premed course work in England to engineering course work in Hong Kong, from field research with developmental agencies in Mali to language study in Taiwan. Whether you choose to study abroad or work abroad, Rice's Department of International Programs provides individualized advising and other resources to help you develop a personalized plan.
Rice makes every effort to make an international experience accessible to every student. Rice's financial aid, including both need-based aid and merit scholarships, is portable and can be used for an approved study abroad program. In addition, study abroad scholarships and grants are available to support students who choose to enrich their academic programs with time spent abroad. |
