Study Abroad
Come to Rice, but then go away … for a study or work abroad opportunity, that is.
Today’s world is a global world, and at Rice we emphasize the importance of our students gaining an international perspective and cross-cultural competence. We view international experience as a key element of a well-rounded education. And so do our students. Nearly 40 percent of our undergraduates choose to participate in a Rice-facilitated international experience, whether it is a summer, semester, or full year abroad.
Opportunities are available all over the world—in 2004–2005, Rice students were studying or working in 34 different countries—and in all fields of study—from premed course work in England to engineering study in Hong Kong, and from field research with development agencies in Mali to language study in Taiwan.
What’s more, at Rice we believe that international experience should be available to all students, regardless of their financial situation. That’s why both need-based aid and merit scholarships are portable and can be used for an approved study abroad program. And additional scholarships and grants are available to support students in their international endeavors.
