Student Leadership

Rice expects great things from its students. Whether it’s through residential college governments, the Student Association, or the Honor Council, there are many student leadership opportunities.

In addition to the traditional leadership outlets, Rice offers special programs:

  • Leadership Rice allows students to see the components of leadership come to life while working on a team dealing with a real-world project. Additional courses encourage the exploration of entrepreneurship, ethics and creativity. To build on what is learned in the classroom, Leadership Rice offers undergraduates the opportunity to compete for select paid summer mentorships. Mentorship opportunities have included placements at the Pentagon, ABC News, Schlumberger, Baylor College of Medicine and the Corcoran Gallery.
  • ADVANCE (Advocating Diversity and the Need for Cultural Exploration) builds student leadership in a multicultural environment. CultureQuest, one of the program's largest activities, is an annual citywide scavenger hunt that introduces students to Houston's diverse neighborhoods, museums, ethnic restaurants, stores, theaters, libraries and historical sites. Other projects include a culture fair and campus forums on issues of diversity.
