Schools and Departments
When you apply, we ask that you indicate a preference for study in one of the university's major divisions or schools. You will not be required to declare a major, however, until you have been here almost two years, and even then you'll be able to change your mind.
Nearly 35 percent of Rice students choose to fulfill the requirements for two or even three majors, often in seemingly unrelated subjects. Your selection of a school during the application process will not limit your opportunities to explore areas across the curriculum at Rice. (Transferring into the music or architecture schools from another academic division is subject to faculty approval.)
Also at Rice: The Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Management of Rice University offers masters-level degrees only. Our Susanne M.Glasscock School of Continuing Studies serves the educational needs of the wider community, enrolling approximately 10,000 students each year.
