Children will enjoy and learn about music through an exciting approach created by children’s recording artist and master teacher Rachel Buchman. In an atmosphere encouraging creativity, children will participate in singing and ear training, rhythmic and creative movement, constructing and playing instruments, and learning notation. Although the emphasis is on music, each session will integrate and utilize all of the creative arts—music, dance, drama, visual art, and literature.
This experience is designed for voice students interested in classical singing who are at least 15 years of age. Students stay overnight in the dorms at Rice and receive private instruction. They also attend master classes, guest lectures, and a recital performance. The goals of the camp are to learn about healthy singing, the body as an instrument, how to learn music, the real world of opera, and career possibilities in music. Applicants must submit a taped audition. Limited enrollment.
The weeklong Summer Institute for Piano is designed for precollegiate students interested in classical piano study who might be considering a major in music. Students receive private instruction and attend master classes, music history classes, and classes on musical forms. They also give recitals and take a field trip to a cultural event in
