Rice has a long-standing partnership with NASA, and many Rice graduates join NASA for careers in engineering, among other fields. Some go on to become astronauts like Peggy Whitson, '86, who spent six months aboard the space station, where she conducted 21 investigations in human life and microgravity sciences.

High School Transcript

Your high school transcript is vital to our selection process. Successful applicants to Rice take the most advanced courses available in their high schools. Your course selection in high school is as important as your grades. Most applicants take at least 20 college preparatory courses in high school, but minimally you will be expected to have taken at least 16 year-units of college preparatory subjects, including:

  • four years of English
  • two years of one foreign language
  • three years of college preparatory math
  • two years of laboratory science
  • two years of social science
  • three courses in any of the above subjects

Applicants to the natural sciences and engineering divisions must have taken trigonometry or precalculus, chemistry, and physics. If you do not take physics, you may substitute a second year of chemistry or biology.
