Rice has a long-standing partnership with NASA, and many Rice graduates join NASA for careers in engineering, among other fields. Some go on to become astronauts like Peggy Whitson, '86, who spent six months aboard the space station, where she conducted 21 investigations in human life and microgravity sciences.

Freshman Admission Decision Plans

You've decided to apply to Rice; now you must choose an admission plan. Rice offers two freshman application plans, each with its own timetable. For details on application, testing, and financial aid deadlines for each plan, review our Admission and Financial Aid Calendar 2009-2010

Early Decision Plan

If you know that Rice is your first choice and you would like to complete the process early, consider the Early Decision Plan. Your application must be submitted by November 1, and we will notify you by December 15. This is a binding decision plan; you may initiate applications to other colleges but may make an Early Decision application to one college only. Three decisions are possible under this plan: accept, defer, or deny. If accepted to Rice under Early Decision, by January 2 you must commit to Rice and withdraw all other college applications, or you must withdraw your application to Rice.

Early Decision applicants to Rice must submit the Common Application Early Decision Agreement to complete their application.

Regular Decision Plan

The Regular Decision Plan requires that the application be submitted by January 2. We will notify you of an admission decision on April 1. You have until May 1 to accept our offer and make your deposit at Rice.
